For our second brief of the year we settled on Chapel Market, a historic market street in the center of the Angel/Islington area. A diverse mixture of mass-market and independent shopping, the area is high traffic and engaging, with Chapel Market street operating full swing Tuesday-Sunday. The retro signs lining the street are what immediately caught my eye, the union springing from that. From there, the most important part of my proposal was the building fitting in nicely with its neighbors, providing privacy for the flats next door and the union members, and bringing delicate landscaping and an unobtrusive contemporary accent to the area.
