Beacon, 2021
CSM Spatial Design Foundation
Beacon aims to be a new type of safe haven; a land locked lighthouse. Poking above the tree line of Hampstead Heath, the structures provide shelter, viewpoints, navigation points, and emergency aid.
Beacon was my first project at CSM’s Foundation for Art and Design, under the ‘HACK CITY’ brief, where we were tasked to interrupt London. I chose to interrupt the Heath, because it presented a uniquely natural setting, along with one that requires strategic interruption so as to not seem indelicate. Living near the Heath, I could walk across it to get to class— but when darkness came at 3:30 during winter, it became dangerous to navigate. Beacon was the response to a problem I was experiencing in that very moment.
